於2018年，開始首年國際文憑大學預科課程（IBDP）的學生皆對新發佈的規範感到驚訝。新的規範為試卷上帶來的改變會首次實施於2020年五月的考試上，而當中最重要的是卷二的語言B或Ab initio將加入聆聽理解部分。 但與此同時，沒有人能夠估計全球大流行的進展將會帶來的影響。2019冠狀病毒病經已擾亂了全球所有教學及學習過程的正常發展。而在2021年五月，IBDP考試的新設計仍然受到影響。 在外語部分，不論是語言B或Ab initio，新加入的聆聽理解部分均不會於2021年五月實施。在新的2020年格式底下，國際文憑組織（終於）承認，在學習外語方面，「所有語言技巧的發展皆是重要的。」然而，基於嚴重特殊傳染性肺炎疫情的關係，組織同時表明「儘管聆聽能力仍然可以於虛擬或混合模式中得到有意義的發展，學校或未能安全地及有效地為2021年五月的新措施作出安排。」 結果，2022年五月報考的學生將會是首批應對卷二聆聽理解部分的群組。幸好，現在還有足夠時間為考試作好準備的。 而針對國際文憑組織為2022年五月所出版的官方月曆而言，IBDP考試將會如同近年一樣擴大
